WONG Ping

Born 1984 in Hong Kong, lives and works in Hong Kong

Through bright colours and animated styles that mimic retro video games, WONG Ping hints at an unsettling story. Flashing, pop-like imagery, visual andauditory narrations that explicitly touch upon sex, politics, and social relations, vibrant installations extending intothe three dimensions of the artist’s fantastical animated world, are the cornerstones of WONG Ping’s practice. They combine the crass and the colourful to createa discourse around repressed sexualities, personalfeelings and political limitations. WONG discusses hisobservations of society using a visual language that sitson the border of shocking and amusing. WONG Ping graduated from Curtin University, Perth in 2005 and now works as an independent animator and illustrator. Hisworks have been presented in exhibitions and art festivalsworldwide, most recently in One Hand Clapping at the Guggenheim Museum and the New Museum Triennial, New York.
